TAILORING COURSEBOOKS CONTENTS TO MEET REAL BEGINNER’S LOCAL CULTURE REALITY: CASE STUDY OF GRADE 10 STUDENTS IN LICEU OF WACU-KUNGO

Abstract

Any instructional materials are conceived to help both instructor and learner to conduct the tasks of teaching and learning  effectively. By using these resources accordingly, the instructor, first and foremost, has to be well-acquainted with learners’ local culture reality in order to adopt effective strategies for tailoring coursebooks contents to meet their real beginner’s local culture reality. As a matter of fact, the purpose of this work is getting Grade 10 Teachers aware of some Effective Strategies for tailoring English Language coursebook to learners’ local culture reality. To be aware of educators’ difficulties in tailoring the coursebook contents to meet learners’ reality, three methods were used such as, questionnaire (teacher-student questionnaires), which provided quantitative data. Second, observation method, some lessons were observed to see how the educators using coursebook contents in accordance with learners’ reality. This method supplied qualitative data. Yet, coursebook contents (Step by Step grade 8) were analyzed entirely by using text analysis method to obtain qualitative outcome as well. In fact, some of the effective ways of making teaching-learning process happening smoothly and logically has to do with knowing the learners’ reality and what they really need English language for to solve their  community drawback.
